Chapter 401 What next
Chapter 401 What next
401 What next
"Ugh..." Kairen leaned on his brother and raised his body to sit up. He felt exhausted and drained. Just sitting up was overwhelming to him. He leaned his head against Aaron's chest and took deep breaths, doing his best not to close his eyes. Various memories surfaced in his mind, making Kairen dizzy.
He saw little Reyn learning how to read and write, stealthily reading Mister Roy's notes and books despite not understanding them, helping Roy in gradually building the structure, and growing up beside the said man.
The good thing was that the memories didn't drag him into unconsciousness this time. They bore a weight on his mind but it was fine as long as he didn't faint. "I'll take care of them... one by one..." He mumbled under his lips. 'Should I start now, or shall I wait until I've recovered a little bit? My body is fine, I haven't used too much energy, but the problem is the memories. I might faint again if I use my power...' Would it be too late if he started taking care of the gates one by one after he rested a little bit? He had only managed to stop the emergence of the monsters for a short while so he didn't have much time to waste. Even if he rested and then started to work, he would only be able to take care of a few of the gates before all the remaining ones burst at the same time. 'What should I do? What should I do?'
Brrrr brrrrr
Rinngg Ringgg
The ringing of a phone brought Kairen back from his thoughts. Aaron's phone and his phone were ringing at the same time. They looked at the numbers, one was from team leader Dains while the other caller was the commander. After hesitating a bit, Kairen answered the commander's call. -What the actual hell is going on?
Kairen looked up at the gates still floating in the sky. "They are gates, a massive collection of universal powers that have condensed together and create monsters stronger than normal. The monsters will burst out at once and attack anything they see."
-....
No one said a word for a brief second. -How can I be sure that letting you use those artifacts won't pose any dangers to your surroundings?
"Will the danger I pose to my surroundings be greater than the threat that those gates bring to this world? You can try and not trust me, wait, and see what'll fall upon this land. I've seen it, and so has my brother. If it wasn't for me stopping the flood, this city could've gotten destroyed till now. You should've seen that already."
-....
There was no way that the commander hadn't received the news regarding what Kairen has done. He was standing on the balcony and a lot of light was surrounding him, so his presence and actions were quite obvious.
-Alright... The man finally gave an affirmative answer. -Come over to the headquarters now. I won't allow those things to leave this place, nor can let you leave my sight. "Haha!"
Kairen chuckled before ending the call. He stared at the phone for a second before looking up at his brother. Aaron was clearly displeased but he wasn't saying anything nor did he try to stop Kairen. The fact made Kairen feel more at ease. "Uhm... Can you help me up?"
His body was still exhausted and weak so he needed some help. While leaning on Aaron to get up, Kairen mumbled something to his brother. "I might pass out again afterward, maybe for a long while, so... Don't get panicked and just wait. I'll be fine."
"...." Aaron didn't look into Kairen's eyes when he nodded his head. "Okay."
