Chapter 632

Chapter 632

“So what were you holding back on?” Lexi asked as they were flying back to the duchy.

“You could tell?” Ajax smiled sheepishly at how despite the progress in his social Skills Lexi was still able to tell.

“Actually, no.” Lexi laughed a little. “Whatever it was that you did out there in the Wild Lands was good for your social Skills, though I would be careful around anyone from house Silvertongue since I’m not sure you could get much past them. But you offered the information of what happened way too easily and you moved through events quickly.”

“I held back on four things.” Ajax came clean. “I didn’t tell anyone yet since I didn’t want there to be a chance for any of them to slip out while we were in the capital though one of them will be pretty obvious quickly.”

“Is that why you didn’t mention [Spell Direction] at all?” Aurexion asked. The dragon was already aware of the things Ajax specifically did not mention.

“I’m not sure how many spies are still left here and I don’t want to risk anything before we get a chance to find our stride in the war.” Ajax nodded. “I did get ambushed on my way out of Gryndor after all.”

“What is [Spell Direction]?” Lexi asked.

“A Rare Skill.” Ajax answered. “One that powers up my freeform casting style the same way [Chanting] does yours. It adds a little complexity to my movements but the power is more than worth it.”

“That’s a pretty big deal.” Lexi’s eyes widened but after she thought for a moment she followed Ajax’s thought process. “But it's not like you have the time to teach anyone now and nobody going can actually use it since you would have to build it up as you grow, it's not something you just add on.”

“Ideally the unexpected power boost in my spells will give me time to work on the second thing I didn’t mention.” Ajax explained with a smile. “Getting my first Pseudo-Mythic Skill.”

Ajax and Aurexion proceeded to explain what a Pseudo-Mythic Skill was to Lexi as well as how one was gained and why they were pretty sure Ajax would be able to get one in the early stages of the war.

“So it’s dangerous.” Lexi said once they finished. “Powerful but dangerous.”

“Not real-” Ajax started.

“Yes.” Aurexion cut him off. “ It’s why he needs to add his style Skill in there or he won’t be able to properly control the Skill and he will surely hurt himself with it. Still it’s much better to gain a Pseudo-Mythic Skill like this now and learn how to use it. That way when he gains his first Mythic Skill he won’t tear himself apart with it.”

“You’re so sure I’ll get a Mythic Skill?” Ajax was surprised since Aurexion didn’t mention that to him before. From the way Mythic was mentioned it was extremely rare even among Ascended.

“You have eight Legendary Skills and you’re not even half a century old.” Aurexion pointed out to him. “Yes I’m sure you’ll one day get a Mythic Skill.”

“You did gain two Legendary Skills in under a year.” Lexi pointed out. “What was the last thing you left out?”

“That is something I don’t want you to share with anyone.” Ajax said.

Lexi nodded in understanding before Ajax told her of the Death Mana gem and how he had gifted it to Shifty. “You didn’t bring it back?” Lexi had a hard time not being a little upset as Ajax might not have had any affinity for Death Mana she might have.

“That’s not something we want to have even in humanoid lands.” Ajax tried to explain, he very much understood why Lexi was upset. “Besides, it is extremely dangerous. I mean even a weakened blast channeled through it by a regular level one hundred and twenty was enough to most likely kill me in a single hit. It could have brought Ascended looking to claim it for themselves here.”

“You didn’t have to take it out and show it to them.” Lexi pointed out.

“I didn’t know what it was.” Ajax defended himself.

“It also wouldn’t have mattered.” Aurexion joined it. “Mythic Mana types are very distinct and all of the strongest Ascended are constantly on the lookout for them. As far as I know there is only Death and Time as Mythic affinities. If they would have felt anything like that coming from humanoid lands they still would have investigated, it might have even caused a fight between two of them in your lands and I doubt your kingdoms could survive the devastation of such a battle.”

“They could feel it from so far away?” Lexi asked.

“Epic Skill [Mana Sensitivity].” Aurexion explained. “You can’t get it before you have [Sense Mana] at level one hundred at least but it extends the range you can feel Mana by quite a lot.”

“How do you know they would have felt it?” Ajax asked.

“There is a cautionary tale about it, funnily enough it's about a human.” Aurexion told them. “A long time ago, before the Reaper, a human boy somehow managed to gain the Time affinity. He had got it rather early in life though everyone thought his future self had something to do with it as the boy was somehow using it to learn from his future self. Time affinity is weird like that and with it being used from both the future and the present it seemed to work, though I have no idea how.”

“What happened to him?” Lexi asked, intrigued.

“The use of Time Mana was felt.” Aurexion answered. “It took a while since he was only using it internally but it was found out he was captured and later killed. His progress speed was astounding but he had no real strength to back it up.”

“What about your cousin?” Ajax asked.

“Khalysstra is taking him straight to her own king.” Aurexion snorted. “Keeping something like that from him especially when others already know would not be good and he will need protection. The good part is that our dragon emperor is getting old and this might just push him to choose my cousin as a worthy heir.”

“Why do you want me to keep this to myself?” Lexi asked. “I will but it doesn’t seem all that impactful.”

“Because I don’t want people trying to get other Death or Time gems from the dungeons. It’s a really easy way to destroy them.” Ajax said. “More than that however I don’t want word to get out about the dragons owing me for something so big.”

“I’m pretty sure they’ll figure out the connection anyway considering your bond.” Lexi pointed out.

“There is a difference in having a bond that’s as strong as a champion and having a dragon at least level three hundred feel they owe you a big debt.” Ajax explained. “Especially once more people start to get in contact with other Ascended races and see the difference in power for themselves.”

“You do have a point.” Lexi nodded. “Just the possibility of that kind of power would make people worried and jumpy.” Lexi herself knew she couldn’t even properly imagine how powerful a level three hundred dragon was since Aranor was only a level two hundred mage and his longer casts felt like a natural disaster.

“This low Mana is starting to get uncomfortable.” Aurexion complained after a few moments of silence. “I’ll need regular access to a dungeon while I stay here to eat some Mana rich meat. I would say a regular supply of your Mana rich honey would do but I doubt you have enough for me.”

“I doubt that will be a problem but I also plan on replanting the rest of those grafted trees to make a higher Mana density spot for you in our lands.” Ajax promised his bond.

“Don’t make it at your manor.” Aurexion requested.

“Why not?” Ajax asked.

“Too close to the dungeon.” Aurexion said. “Not to mention you want to find a vein of metals and make a lake on top of them so that over time they will get infused with Mana as well. A couple mountain lakes in a cave would be best.”

“I’ll have my mother look for a good spot.” Ajax assured the dragon.

“What are your plans for the few weeks you’re going to be back?” Lexi asked.

“I missed everyone for the months I was away.” Ajax said. “I am planning on spending a lot of time with everyone as well as getting caught up on everything that has been happening in the duchy. I am especially interested in how the kids progressed after their first year in school.”

Lexi had a hard time getting the proper eye contact from where Aurexion was carrying her in his claw to where Ajax was riding on his neck but the effect was easy to feel in the silence as she clearly didn’t buy his story.

“I was also thinking about maybe getting some of the Common Alchemy helper Skills since I have the opportunity with the new arm and all.” Ajax sheepishly admitted after a few moments of tense silence. “But I promise to wait at least four days before I get started on that.”

It was an easy promise for Ajax to make since he was sure there was no way he would find a free moment in the first four days of being truly back. Between his family, the duchy and getting Aurexion settled his next few weeks before going to war were going to be packed.
