“What the fuck is an echidna?” Suka says as I wrap up the tale of my adventure.
I came home to find Gabby tinkering at her work-in-progress alchemy table while Suka sat on the bed petting Flou. I’d half-expected the three of them to be mid-orgy when I returned, but I think I get why not. They’re only irrepressibly horny when I’m around because of my human scent. Sure, they get urges from time to time and use each other to fulfill those needs, but it isn’t a constant thing without my presence stimulating their libidos.
“An echidna is an egg-laying spiny anteater,” Gabby explains as she adjusts her spectacles. “They went extinct several centuries ago if the records are to be believed. However, I doubt that is what Peter meant. Ancient human words often had more than one meaning. I suspect the answer would be in the Book of Monsters...”
“...But the page was torn out,” I finish.
The green shortstack nods sagely. “That, along with anything about the monster that bestowed you with this magic. There’s no way he hasn’t done the same thing to other women over the years, hence the ‘new’ echidna. At least we have a lead, though I’ll have to visit a library to learn more.
I raise an eyebrow. “Is there really a library around here?”
“I heard a rumor about one deep in the Misty Grove,” Gabby says with a greedy glint in her eye, “Inside a dungeon.” I can’t imagine what the Apprentice would do for access to a library. “Did Peter say anything else of note?”
“No.” I sigh. “He started moaning about his balls (or lack thereof), and we decided to leave before things got hairy.”
“Remind me why you didn’t kill the bastard?” Suka says with a half-wolfish snarl.
“He protects the Warren from Mole-men. Removing him could decimate the Fuzzy folk population, resulting in multiple incursions that might end up sending starving monsters to destroy my hometown.”
Suka snorts heavily, showing how she feels about the excuse despite my logic.
Personally, I’m more concerned with leaving the Fuzzy folk with him. I hated leaving them behind, but I’m not ready to relocate an entire underground colony to the hut. I need more sources of food and better protection for when I’m away. I can’t stay at home all the time like Peter.
However, those are all things I’m confident I can get eventually. Returning to liberate the Warren is a new personal goal I won’t forget about. After that, I’ll have to worry about all the starving predators relying on the Fuzzy folk for food, otherwise they’ll attack me or my hometown. Is it even possible to find a replacement that satisfies everyone? Do I have any business thinking I can implement such a large-scale change?
It’s something to consider.
“And why didn’t we know about Peter when we let Alex go into the Warren alone?” Gabby asks with exasperation and a twitching eye.
“I-i-it was... m-m-my fault. I’m so sorry!” Cottontail apologizes while visibly shaking, ending in a high-pitched squeak as she bows. “I was going to wait for Alex by the entrance, but we were spotted last night. I didn’t know he found out until Peter summoned me right before Alex arrived. He questioned me for hours, then found out Alex had been ‘captured’ and summoned her as well. You know the rest.”
“You’re right,” Gabby agrees after catching the next load in her palm and giving it a lick. “Not as good as human, but I could get used to this taste.”
Cottontail gulps audibly, head spinning with dizzy spirals in her eyes as she’s totally overwhelmed by her two new predators.
I’m so happy my girls are getting along! This is everything I didn’t know to ask for in a dream harem! I’m getting excited just watching them.
“As hot as this is, why is nobody asking why Alex is green, now?” Flou asks the question on every monster’s mind (if low on the priority list) as she speaks for the first time since we got home.
“A talking Slime?” Cottontail says as she comes to her senses and blinks in surprise. The poor Fuzzy Slime melts into a depressed puddle. “Wait, isn’t that Flou’s voice?”
The Fuzzy Slime stiffens to attention, her ears standing on end as if electrified. “Y-you recognize me?!?”
The bunny girl looks at the former bunny girl, now Fuzzy Slime, and rushes over. Cottontail scoops Flou into her arms, lifting the furred droplet and tightly hugs the long-eared Slime. “Flou, you’re alive!”
The little Slime shudders and cries as she’s embraced by her cousin despite having changed shape so drastically.
“Flou, what happened?” Cottontail pets her cousin’s auburn fur while waiting for an answer.
“I was captured by Goblins, who were entranced by these Treefolk,” Flou begins after composing herself. “They were rounding up a bunch of us for food. I was next when Alex literally pulled me from one of the Treefolk’s jaws. But... I was wounded. I was dying. Alex offered me a choice, and I decided to risk it for a chance at a new life. Well, here I am.”
Cottontail runs to me, weeping, and throws her arms around me, squishing Flou between us. “Alex!” The bunny girl cries on my shoulder, since I still have Goblin Stature equipped. “Alex, why are you so good to me? How are you real? You saved me, stopped Peter, and rescued Flou! Then you take me to a wonderful place where all my fantasies come true? I haven’t done anything to deserve this.”
I remember Cottontail distracting the Mole-men to let the Fuzzies escape.
“But you have. You deserve everything those beautiful monsters and I will be doing to all your holes. Every. Single. Night.” Suka and Gabby smile at us, nodding enthusiastically.
“This has to be a dream...”
I cup Cottontail’s chin, lifting it to kiss her on the lips.
“Then dream a little dream with me.”
