Chapter 132: Dividing the team
"Xuexue!" Xiang Mei cried out the second she saw Bai Xue open the door; she threw herself in Bai Xue’s arms and sighed in relief. There was no denying the fact that she was quite relieved to see Bai Xue.
"Meimei, are you alright?" though Bai Xue was filled with disgust, she still allowed the woman to hug her. However, she pulled away quickly when Xiang Mei was not paying attention.
Xiang Mei wiped the tears that were hanging on her lashes and replied in a sobbing voice, "How can I be alright? You already know the situation outside; it’s terrible. I really thought that I was going to die."
First, the entire city was engulfed with water. They didn’t even get enough time to calm down when the mutated rats appeared followed by the zombies. It was such a disgusting and scary sight that Xiang Mei still felt her entire body trembling.
Fortunately, she somehow managed to survive or else—she gulped harshly before raising her head and looking around the house. She asked, "Xuexue, do you have some water? We are really thirsty; it has been more than three days since we drank clean water."
Bai Xue’s eyes flashed with annoyance when she heard Xiang Mei ask for water. She sighed and shook her head before saying to Xiang Mei, "How can I have enough supplies? My family is in trouble as well. Though Brother Feng went to find some supplies, I don’t know if he can find some."
After she finished speaking, she sighed and spoke in a heavy voice, "If only sister Yueyue—" She stopped herself just in time, as if she said something she was not supposed to say.
"What about Bai Meiyue?" Xiang Mei was Bai Xue’s good friend; thus, even though she knew that Bai Meiyue was the victim rather than the culprit, she still didn’t like the woman.
Xiang Mei pursed her lips and asked, "Did that woman come to bully you again? I am telling you, Xuexue. Now that the situation is like this, you should ignore that woman and leave her to fend for herself. She will certainly come here and beg for supplies from you, so make sure that you avoid her at all costs!"
"Yeah, let’s go." Lei Yan also wanted to get some vegetables and fruits. There was no other choice. Though Lei Yan liked meat, she knew that they needed vegetables and fruits for fibre as well.
After the destination was decided, their small group got into the two SUVs and then drove to the farmer’s market. The water had gone down by many levels; now the street was covered with a thin film of ice. They had to slow down and drive carefully, as they didn’t want to crash in a ditch.
Soon, they arrived at the farmer’s market. Compared to the hustle and bustle of the past, it was completely deserted.
"Be careful," Bai Meiyue glanced at her two brothers before leaving the car. "Though it’s really quiet, we can never be sure of anything. What if zombies are lurking inside the building? So don’t rush inside without checking out."
"We got it." Bai Zhan nodded and turned to look at Bai Jixuan, who raised his eyebrows. He said in an offended voice, "I know this much!"
Bai Zhan snorted. He knew that his brother knew that much but he also knew that Bai Jixuan was an adrenaline junkie. He was impulsive and careless at times and this was the reason why Bai Zhan was more worried about Bai Jixuan than Bai Meiyue.
"Be careful and stay behind me," Bai Zhan said to Bai Jixuan sternly, who pouted but didn’t refuse.
One by one, the group stepped out of the two vehicles and headed inside the farmer’s market.
"Lets separate," Yun Chuan looked at Bai Meiyue and the rest before saying, "There is no point in staying together in a group. It will only slow us down. I think its better if half of the people go and collect vegetables while the others should go to the fruit section. The rest can go and collect the seeds; what do you say?"
