Chapter 143 Kyle Opens Up.
Chapter 143 Kyle Opens Up.
Kyle was with Cassandra and played a little bit with her however it was time to get down to business.
"Are you worried about losing your child?" Kyle questioned her, sitting across from her.
"Which mother wouldn't be scared of losing their child?" Cassandra responded with a worried look on her face.
Kyle kept quiet because he knew about one woman, that was his late mother that took her life and left him to survive alone in this world.
It was a miracle that Kyle did as well as he did with such a traumatic childhood but it also explained why he was disconnected from reality.
He was going through the motions because his mother had taught him one thing from an early age: There was always one escape if things got too hard.
This was the principle that ironically got Kyle through each day.
He couldn't understand his feelings but for some reason, he wanted to watch how Cassandra raised her child.
He couldn't wrap his fingers around it before, he was uncertain but Kyle realized he no longer had the luxury of uncertainty.
Uncertainty breeds complications, he was uncertain about so many things and one of those things nearly cost Jane her life.
If Kyle had gotten rid of Mike or rather, Clarence; none of this would have happened.
"You're right; a mother should love her child," Kyle responded, but Cassandra picked up on something more instinctual than visual.
There was something in the way he responded.
"Your mother is she sti-!" Cassandra was cut short.
"My mother killed herself when I was kid," Kyle revealed like this was something casual.
There was no emotional connection.
Kyle knew he could talk to Cassandra not because she was older but because she was a mother.
This was the only reason why he spoke the way he did as he didn't see himself revealing this information to either Jane or Calista.
"Oh my God, I'm sorry," Cassandra was quick to show her sympathy for bringing up a topic that could be triggering.
"You are? Tell me why..." Kyle said, looking her right in the eye but the look on his face was anything but friendly.
"I can't imagine what you might have had to go through losing your mother that young," Cassandra told him but Kyle chuckled at this response.
"People always say they're sorry for one's loss but in truth, you're indifferent," Kyle pointed out, pausing to take a sip of the glass of water that she had served him before continuing.
"... And that's fine. Selective empathy and the only reason you're sorry was because I have burdened you with uncomfortable information that forces you to respond this way. If you knew my mother, you wouldn't be sorry," Kyle said but once again, she could tell he held no emotional connection to his mother by the way he spoke.
However, Cassandra knew this was a rare opportunity to find out more about him so she had to tread carefully.
"You're right, I have no idea who your mother was but I know you and this was why I offered my condolences," Cassandra responded, almost regretting bringing up his mother.
This would serve as a good means to see what kind of person Cassandra was.
If she could handle herself around her ex-husband but more importantly, if all she has told him was true.
What if the husband wasn't the problem?
After all, he didn't have the privilege of listening to both sides of the story.
Cassandra looked panicked when she told him this because she understood that Kyle was a man who didn't like to share. The rules he had set earlier and they had never spoken about the child.
Yet, his body language didn't betray him, and Kyle didn't react to this negatively.
"That's good, I was worried for a moment that you would deprive him of a father. A terrible husband doesn't mean a terrible father," Kyle pointed out and this was something that people didn't like to admit as they tend to lump them into one.
Cassandra was visibly relieved by how he reacted to this news, she thought about lying for a brief second but that would only complicate things in the future.
If she wanted anything decent with Kyle, she had to be completely honest.
"I would never do that to him," Cassandra responded.
Kyle understood that he was here because she wished to repay him with sex and this was a bit disappointing.
"When is the court date?" Kyle questioned and Cassandra thought about it for a moment.
She didn't know that Kyle would show this much interest, he had already done enough with the money.
"It Is in 3 days," Cassandra responded.
"Are you sure it is a good idea to be seen with me until it is over?" Kyle questioned.
Cassandra thought about it for a moment.
She knew that there was no way this would affect the court proceedings especially since Kyle was willing to be in the boy's life but Kyle knew that this might cause complications.
The timeframe in which she got with him would raise suspicions about the authenticity of the relationship.
Not only that, it would put him in the spotlight.
A light which he wanted to avoid because the last thing he would want was unwanted questions.
He might have laid the foundation to explain his wealth but it was too early for such returns to be possible.
There was no way a nightclub that was less than a week old would make him a billionaire or a renovated building that hadn't even been completed.
Kyle took his time to explain his reasoning to her.
"Now that you say that, I think you might have a point. I can't believe I didn't think of it that way," Cassandra gasped but was more amazed that Kyle was already thinking that far ahead.
"On the 4th day, I will give you all your body desires," Kyle said with a straight face, looking right at her breasts.
"Everything I desire..." He muttered under his breath with a smirk, instantly taking control of the situation.
