Chapter 560 559: Revelation (pt 1)
A while later...
The group was floating a distance away from the Tactoa forbidden zone. No one forbade it, but the danger it posed kept everyone away. So there was no need to seek anyone's permission.
Since they had nothing to do for the rest of the day, they figured they might as well go check it out.
"Wow, it's as you said. That does look ominous. And you said that this is the furthest R9s can go?" Muku asked in an intrigued voice.
"Yes. They could get closer a few weeks ago. But this is it now. Can you sense anything?" Klaus asked curiously, looking at Muku and the girls.
"Anything like what?" Muku asked back in a confused voice.
"Umm. I don't know. Aren't you the chosen ones? So of course you should be able to sense something. Maybe an ancient message or hidden inheritance, I don't know," Klaus replied with a shrug.
"Who the heck do you think we are? Heaven's children? Well, I don't sense anything, and I don't think they do either from their silence, so sorry for the disappointment," Muku replied with an eye roll.
He felt that Klaus had read too many fantasy novels.
"Well, if you say so," Klaus replied in a not-so-convincing voice.
Muku was about to lose it and fight it out with him when Althea suddenly looked his way with a questioning gaze.
"What?" Muku asked confusedly.
"You really don't hear anything? I hear the words Mutiny, Chaos' champion, Bleeding sky, Overseer, Devourer and some other gibberish I can't make out. And I sense a Monarch's authority there. One I don't know of. Which doesn't make sense since there have always been 12, which are all accounted for..." Althea asked and then revealed what she heard.
"What?! Really?" Muku was surprised. So some of them really could hear something. What are the odds?
Klaus almost said "I told you so," but he noticed Muku's threatening gaze, so he kept his mouth shut.
"It must be a Monarch thing then because I still can't hear anything. Do any of you?" Nuku replied, then asked the girls, who shook their heads in reply.
"Huh. Maybe... You stay here. I want to try something," Althea replied calmly, then began flying forward.
Muku just nodded in response. He wanted to stop her. But then he remembered that while her power was sealed, it couldn't be projected to the outside world. It was still there internally. So if the Monarch remains likely couldn't do anything to her, unlike them. Maybe give her surface-level injuries, but internally, she would be fine.
And so, they all watched Althea slowly get closer and closer to the thick mist.
Surprisingly, the tentacle attack they expected didn't occur.
This made Muku and the girls a little skeptical. The impulsive Raya instantly flew a little distance forward, and almost instantly, tentacles flew her way at a speed faster than light.
She barely managed to block it by teleporting away.
"Welp, I guess you weren't lying after all," She spoke calmly as if it wasn't her who had done something so reckless.
"...." Klaus really wanted to call it this crazy dragon girl who reminded him of his sister with her recklessness.
But he dared not do such a thing. After all, he was very familiar with her and how petty she could be. Hell, the girl even settles all scores with Muku, to whom she was soul-bound.
If she acted that way with the closest person to her, then who the hell was he? Plus, she had helped them out for cheap back then, so he had to be respectful for that reason alone, at least.
"Idiot," Muku, on the other hand, was different. He wanted all the smoke.
"Hey! You wanted to try it out too! All of you. Even these guys who warned us!" Raya instantly snapped.
"But we didn't. You did," Muku replied casually.
He didn't disagree since she was speaking the truth. He really wanted to try it. And so did the girls and the brothers. Everyone wondered if the tentacles no longer attacked after seeing Althea casually advancing.
Fortunately, they didn't do it, for who knows if they would have been as lucky as Raya. After all, they didn't have teleportation.
But even then, Muku would always pettily call Raya out. No matter how shameless it was. That's just the kind of relationship they had.
"Tsk. Hmph!" Raya didn't know what to say, so she just clicked her tongue and looked away.
Audrey really wanted to pinch her cheeks because of how cute she looked at that moment, but she controlled herself.
It was more important to see what was going on with Althea in case they needed to step in.
While the tentacles were most definitely dangerous, she didn't think of them as being all that much. After all, they practiced all had special cards they could play if they had to. Especially Muku's erasing ga... well, erasing fists and kicks now. He still hadn't gotten the OP gaze back.
Anyway, they refocused on Althea, who soon completely entered the mist without being attacked.
It started churning after she entered but soon returned to its calm.
Dink!
[I'm fine. Just reached the centre. There's a core. I want to see what will happen if I touch it. So don't worry. I should be out soon😂🤓😘✌️] Althea sent Muku a text with her iconic confused emoji usage.
He felt a slight headache coming on just from seeing them.
"It's Althea. She said she's fine. Muku spoke while showing the girls the text. They giggled at the confusing emojis. After all, they had all received texts with such emojis before. Seeing Muku's obviously bothered expression made it funnier...
....
While that happened, Althea looked at the pitch-black core at the centre of the internally chaotic mist.
After sending Muku a message, she reached out and touched it.
As for why she did it, she didn't know. She just felt like it was something to do.
And as soon as she did, white light exploded out of the core and blinded her for a split second.
When she regained her vision, she saw countless scenes playing all around her on various "screens" in the chaotic mist.
She instantly closed her eyes and released her divine sense. With it, she captured all the scenes that were being shown and started playing them in her head in a specific order that just seemed correct.
The first thing she saw was Monarchs... she couldn't sense their power or tell from their appearance, but she just knew that that's what they were. Oddly enough, it wasn't the expected 12 Monarchs... but hundreds!
Yes, there were hundreds 9f Monarchs gathered together. They all had serious expressions on their faces, likely discussing something important.
"What do you mean we should free the humans, Shadow Monarch? They are, have always been, and should forever be our servants and worshipers. Who cares if one of them somehow managed to reach close to our strength? We can still kill that heretic any time that we want. They are only living right now due to our grace," a green-skinned monarch spoke from a distance.
"Firstly, even without that specific human. I have always been against this system that mistreats a species that's intelligent from the start. After all, unlike our beast race that works on instinct until R3 or so, they only need to grow up a bit. So treating them like that is definitely not right. In fact, how many of you get belief energy from them instead of hatred energy? I am sure it's not a lot. That is enough to tell you that what you are doing is wrong. And it'sdefinitelythe system that created that human you claim is only living by your grace, yet you are scared to face. Let them go and see if she will not stop hunting us down. You say that she is beneath us, and yet 5 are already dead. From what I heard, each kill makes her stronger, and she gains all of the Monarch's abilities. How can you still be so abstinent in such a situation?" The one addressed as Shadow Monarch replied calmly.
"Bullshit! She ambushed them all! And who needs belief energy when hatred energy is easier to gain and less fickle? You have been trying to be a nice Monarch since you took the title, and look at you now. You house a lot of them without exploitation, yet you are not close to being the strongest Monarch. Some days, especially after you give them something they didn't work for, you gain a lot, but when you don't, you gain little. Why put effort into such unreliable things? And so, what if we created her? We can take her out if we just come together and take her out. Hell, if it weren't for you and your 19 friends, everything would already have been taken care of. Is belief energy really that addictive? Well, whatever, I don't care. Just stay out of our way and let us wipe out the whole race if you don't want to help us kill her. At least that way, she won't have any source to get that belief energy from, she won't be a threat anymore," the Jade Monarch argued again with a vicious look on its face.
"Sigh. I tried to help you all live, but it seems you are determined to die. And no, we will not step back and let you destroy such a beautiful species that's only starting to show its potential. And lastly, if you think belief energy is the main source of her power, then you're solely mistaken. You will probably die before you can even realize what hit you..." The Shadow Monarch warned one last time before disappearing along with 19 other Monarchs.
But what was 20 Monarchs compared to hundreds?...
...
After they disappeared(not in the visuals Althea saw)
"Those idiots. If only they didn't have the protection of their secret zones, we would have taken them out. They are probably the ones hiding that human. Well, whatever, I'm sure we'll locate her eventually when she slips up. After all, there are 480 of us and just 20 of them and that human." The Jade Monarch spoke in a venomous manner while looking at the other Monarchs....
