Chapter 353: Helping a friend
Chapter 353: Helping a friend
"Rory!"
The hotel room door was suddenly pushed open, and Yuel appeared in the doorway.
Rory immediately looked up. "Yuel."
The moment she saw him standing there, surprise flashed across her face, quickly followed by delight.
"I thought you said you wouldn’t arrive until tonight."
Yuel strode into the room. Behind him came Jasper, Nix, Wen, and Paros.
All of them had arrived.
Yuel walked straight to the bedside and took Rory’s hand, carefully studying her complexion.
His voice remained as gentle as ever.
"When we heard that you were pregnant and suffering from severe morning sickness, we couldn’t stop worrying."
His fingers tightened slightly around hers.
"So we traveled here as quickly as possible."
Nix and Jasper immediately stepped forward as well, concern written all over their faces.
"Rory, how are you feeling now?"
Jasper’s brows were furrowed tightly. "Rory, are you still feeling sick?"
Seeing the concern in their eyes filled Rory’s heart with warmth.
She smiled and shook her head.
"You don’t need to worry anymore."
Then she pointed toward Lian.
"This time, it’s all thanks to Young Master Lian. He transferred the pregnancy symptoms to Vincent."
Hearing that she was no longer suffering, Yuel finally relaxed.
He turned to look at Lian.
The fox stood there in flowing white robes, silver hair like freshly fallen snow, his refined features and elegant bearing making him look more like an immortal than a mortal man.
Yuel smiled politely.
"Young Master Lian, it’s been a long time."
His voice was warm and courteous.
"Thank you for helping our Rory."
"No thanks are necessary." Lian returned the smile. "This is simply my duty as a physician."
His gaze drifted briefly toward Rory.
"And besides, being able to help Rory makes me very happy."
Ah. So that’s what this was. He had fallen for their Rory. No wonder he had been so attentive.
Yuel chose not to acknowledge the implication at all. He had no intention of giving Lian another opportunity to display his devotion.
Instead, he turned toward Vangar.
"Marshal Vangar, if I remember correctly, during one of your campaigns against the Zerg, you obtained a sacred medicine."
Vangar blinked.
Yuel continued calmly.
"Young Master Lian’s sister suffered facial injuries from the Zerg when she was young. That medicine might be able to help her."
His smile remained gentle.
"Young Master Lian has helped Rory this time. Why not offer him the medicine as payment for treating her?"
The moment those words fell, Lian’s eyes widened slightly.
He looked toward Vangar.
Could the sacred medicine Yuel was referring to actually be...
"Marshal Vangar."
For the first time, genuine excitement appeared in his voice.
"Do you truly possess that medicine?"
Vangar nodded.
"I did obtain a sacred medicine from the Zerg."
He glanced suspiciously at Yuel.
How had this guy learned about it?
When he acquired that medicine, he had never told anyone. Originally, Vangar had planned to give it to Rory someday.
The moment Rory heard that the medicine truly existed, she immediately spoke.
"Vangar, give the medicine to Young Master Lian."
A smile appeared on her face.
Polly was her friend. If this medicine could heal her scar, Rory would be genuinely happy for her.
Since Rory herself had spoken, Vangar naturally had no objections.
He nodded.
"The medicine is inside my spatial ring." He looked slightly annoyed. "I left the ring in my room this morning when I rushed out."
Then he turned toward the door.
"I’ll go get it now."
Once Vangar left, Lian looked at Rory with unmistakable gratitude.
"Rory."
His usually composed expression softened considerably.
"Whether or not the sacred medicine can truly heal Polly’s face, the fact that you convinced Marshal Vangar to part with it already makes you my benefactor."
His eyes shimmered with sincerity.
"Our Nine-Tailed Fox Clan has always repaid kindness..."
"Young Master Lian..."
The moment Rory heard that opening, alarm bells immediately started ringing in her head.
Afraid he was about to launch into some declaration involving lifelong devotion or offering himself in repayment, she hurriedly interrupted him.
Then she cast a pleading look toward Yuel.
This sort of delicate rejection, one that turned someone down without offending them, was far beyond her abilities.
Yuel, on the other hand, was an expert.
Catching her desperate glance, Yuel immediately understood.
A knowing smile curved his lips as he turned toward Lian and spoke,
"Young Master Lian, you’re giving me far too much credit."
Yuel smiled politely.
"You cured Rory’s pregnancy sickness, and we’re helping heal your sister’s face. In my eyes, that’s simply a fair exchange. There is no debt of gratitude between us."
Rory immediately nodded in agreement.
"Yuel is right. You helped me, and we’re helping Polly recover. That makes us even."
As expected, Yuel always knew exactly what to say.
Lian looked at Rory, his smile remaining as gentle and elegant as ever.
"Rory, there is something you don’t know."
His gaze softened slightly.
"Polly was injured because of me."
A trace of guilt flickered through his eyes.
"The reason I became a doctor in the first place was to heal her face."
"Over the years, I have tried countless methods."
His voice grew quieter. "I obtained divine fruits from Beast God Mountain. I searched for every sacred medicine I could find. I exhausted every possibility."
He paused briefly.
"And all I managed to achieve was a slight improvement. The Beast God once told me that Polly’s injury was caused by a unique Zerg secretion. The only way to fully heal it is with a particular sacred medicine produced by the Zerg."
A sigh escaped him.
"To find a cure, I even traveled into Zerg territory myself. But I was told that the species capable of producing this medicine had already gone extinct."
His expression turned distant.
"I believed I would never find a cure for Polly’s scar."
Then he looked toward Vangar.
"I never imagined Marshal Vangar would possess a vial."
Yuel truly had found the one thing Lian could not refuse.
Looking back at Rory, Lian spoke with complete sincerity.
"No matter what, the fact that you persuaded Marshal Vangar to give me this medicine means more than you know."
Rory remembered Polly telling her that she had tried countless treatments over the years. She had even consumed fruits from Beast God Mountain, yet nothing had worked.
She had not expected Lian to have gone so far as to seek the Beast God’s help personally.
And even the Beast God had been unable to heal the scar.
So the Beast God wasn’t truly omnipotent after all.
"Young Master Lian, you’re being too polite."
Rory smiled warmly.
"Polly is my friend. If I can help her, that makes me happy."
Now the only question was whether Vangar’s medicine would actually work.
Before long, Vangar returned.
Walking over to Yuel, he pulled a sleek metallic case from his spatial ring.
The container looked highly advanced, covered in intricate technological detailing.
"The medicine is inside."
Yuel accepted the case and immediately handed it to Lian.
"I hope it can help your sister."
"Thank you." Lian accepted it carefully.
Then, right in front of everyone, he opened the case.
The moment he saw the vial inside, his usually composed expression cracked.
Disbelief and excitement flashed across his face.
He turned toward Rory.
"It really is the sacred medicine."
His voice trembled slightly.
"Rory, thank you."
Carefully storing the medicine away, he looked toward Yuel.
"You aren’t leaving until tomorrow, correct?"
Without waiting for an answer, he continued.
"I’ll treat Polly’s face today."
Then he added quickly, clearly anticipating a possible refusal.
"Tomorrow, I’ll travel back to the Central District with all of you."
Before Yuel could respond, Lian continued,
"Rory’s condition still requires regular support from my abilities. Vincent will also need medicine adjusted according to his symptoms."
Yuel almost laughed.
Lian was overthinking things.
Even if he hadn’t suggested it himself, Yuel would have invited him along anyway.
A physician of Lian’s caliber was far too valuable to leave behind.
And as for compensation, that issue had already been settled. After all, they had just given him the sacred medicine.
So Yuel felt perfectly justified making use of his services.
"In that case, we’ll be relying on you during the journey back to the Central District, Young Master Lian."
After speaking, Yuel asked Jasper to escort Lian out.
Once the door closed behind them, Rory immediately grabbed Yuel’s hand.
Her expression was filled with confusion.
"Why did you agree so easily to let Lian come back with us?"
She looked at him suspiciously.
"I don’t believe for a second that you haven’t noticed how he feels about me."
Yuel sat down beside her on the bed. A gentle smile appeared on his face.
"I know exactly how he feels." His tone remained calm and patient. "But his medical skills are exceptional."
He lightly squeezed her hand.
"We didn’t bring a doctor with us, and the medical standards here are inadequate. Having Lian care for you and Vincent during the journey home gives us additional security."
Yuel looked into her eyes.
"Rory, his feelings aren’t what matters." His voice was soft but unwavering. "If you don’t want him, then I promise you this."
A reassuring smile touched his lips.
"I will never give him an opportunity to confess his feelings to you."
His fingers brushed gently across the back of her hand.
"Right now, the only things that matter are you and the baby you’re carrying."
