Chapter 246: Untitled
LDimitris sought an audience with Mariam and it was granted despite their strained relationship.
Mariam didn’t trust Dimitris with her safety but that didn’t mean she didn’t trust that he did what he needed to do for the community.
Mariam looked astonishing, it was amazing that her beauty remained as captivating as ever even when the standards to maintain those things became increasingly hard.
"General, I’m surprised that you came back so quickly. Did you complete the task or was it a dead end?" Mariam asked, she was speaking formally, not that he minded because it allowed them to establish a tone of respect.
"I hate to disappoint you but we have gotten everything we need to last us for years to come," Dimitris pointed out, almost boasting.
Mariam couldn’t believe what she was hearing and the shock on her face was evident.
"Y-You did it!?" Mariam exclaimed, for the first time in a very long time there was hope.
This was something that they had attempted many times in the past and Mariam couldn’t help but admit that Jason might have been the missing component.
Dimitris could tell from her excitement that she genuinely wanted the best for the people here.
"Dimitris..." Mariam called out, prompting the General to give her his full attention.
"What is it, Mariam?" Dimitris questioned.
"I’m sorry for blaming you," Mariam apologized and this wasn’t something that the man was expecting but hearing it, it felt nice.
Dimitris just smiled because he could understand where Mariam was coming from.
Regardless of how you look at things, it was his fault for not recognising these threats despite his primary function being outside the walls.
He was also expected to maintain security within it, and Franklin was accepted into his squad as well.
This lapse in judgment had repercussions that nearly cost Mariam her life but it did take her husband away from her.
This was why Dimtiris wasn’t worried about how she treated him, he was more worried about the people she was surrounding herself with.
He didn’t trust them one bit and knew that Mariam needed someone who could look after her now more than ever with how things were.
She would be easy to take advantage of in this state and Dimitris was here to make sure that doesn’t happen.
The fact that he came to her despite his injured state was a testament to his priorities.
"It is fine, you did what you needed to do," Dimitris reassured her, showing her that he understood where she came from.
Mariam smiled, the tense air felt a lot lighter in that regard and Dimitris got up to his feet but the exhaustion finally caught up to him because his knees buckled.
Even though he caught himself from falling, Mariam was worried because this was the first time that this had happened to Dimitris in her presence.
"Are you alright?" Mariam asked.
"I’m fine, I just need some..." Dimitris couldn’t even complete his sentence before tumbling to the ground and in that same breath, losing consciousness.
-
Rachel was informed of Jason’s arrival and she had mixed feelings about him.
She didn’t know if she should be excited or dread the conversation that was to take place.
She didn’t know if she should talk to Jason about it or keep her mouth shut, this was her dilemma.
But she couldn’t hide forever because this was what she wanted, a normal relationship but it had to be built on trust above all else.
She felt arms wrap around her and she momentarily froze up but there was something familiar and warm with this embrace.
Her entire body relaxed the moment she realized that it was Jason, she felt his trembling.
This was the first time that this had happened, Jason just stood there and the silence was deafening.
Rachel didn’t know what to say but she also realized that not everything needed words.
The silence was just as important as words and she could tell that whatever it was that Jason saw outside the walls.
It must have been a traumatic experience, placing her hands on his hands that rested on her torso.
"It’s going to be fine, Jason," She reassured him despite not knowing what he went through.
"No Rachel..." Jason refuted as his trembling stopped.
"Everything isn’t going to be okay," Jason responded.
For the first time in a long time, he allowed Rachel to know what it was he was truly thinking.
He no longer gave her the gift of blind optimism.
"Jason, what happened out there?" Rachel wanted to ask this but she knew now wasn’t the time.
"I missed you," Jason’s voice softened and she felt his hands gradually move towards her underboob.
She had no idea what had gotten into Jason but now wasn’t the time for any of that.
"S-Stop Jason, we shouldn’t..." Rachel tried to turn him down gently but Jason"s hands arrived at their destination and he raised her top, exposing her breasts seated perfectly in her black bra.
"He’s not listening?" Rachel thought as Jason began to grope her.
Glenn was nearby, being looked over by Matthias, who now had access to pills and this meant that they had the necessary things.
She had come here to retrieve something, she had to return to him with what he had asked her to get.
"J-Jason stop..." Rachel blurted out but these words fell on deaf ears until she pushed him off her.
"I SAID STOP!" Rachel shouted at him.
She didn’t care what he had been through at that moment because there was no excuse for what he was trying to do to her.
Jason snapped back to his senses but before he could apologize, people rushed in as they thought that Rachel was in danger.
"Are you okay?" Josephine quickly asked her and Rachel realized that she had caused a scene.
Jason looked horrified because he didn’t even know what he was doing until she screamed at him.
Without saying a word, he left with Rachel wondering if she approached the situation as best as she could.
But there was no doubt, that wasn’t the Jason she knew.
