Chapter 591 - 610: Another Little Romance Genius After Mo Si
Chapter 591 - 610: Another Little Romance Genius After Mo Si
The way he’d hurried off left Changbei utterly baffled.
Changbei stood there, lost in thought as he stared at the hovercar’s tail fin.
"What are you still looking at?"
"We still have work to do. Let’s get to the office, or we’ll be heading home late again."
"Who cares if it’s late? I’m thinking about something important!"
"...What’s so important?"
"Qiudao, don’t you think the Admiral has been acting strange lately?"
"?"
Early February was drawing to a close, and the army’s deployment was just around the corner. As the legion’s second-in-command strategist, Qiudao had been swamped with work. Changbei, in contrast, though also a vice-admiral, served more as a vanguard on the battlefield and had been relatively free lately.
And with idle hands comes mischief.
"You haven’t noticed at all?"
"What was I supposed to notice?"
Changbei gave him a peculiar look. "You haven’t noticed the Admiral spacing out all the time lately?"
"And he’s been driving a hovercar. He never drove one before. It’s been since... recently, after the New Year. I’ve seen him driving a hovercar several times now."
"We’re about to deploy soon. Isn’t it normal to zone out? And what’s the big deal about the hovercar? Maybe it’s just more convenient for driving in the city?"
’Bingo! That’s the key point!’
"Exactly. It’s convenient for driving into the city, but the Admiral never used to go so frequently."
"And today, he shut the door the second he got into his office!" ’If nothing was wrong, why shut the door?’
He never used to be one for keeping secrets.
’That is true. The Admiral has been enjoying his solitude lately.’
"You’ve said so much. What are you trying to say?"
"Qiudao, you still don’t get what I mean?" Changbei’s eyes widened in astonishment. "I’m saying it seems like the Admiral has a girlfriend."
"..."
Qiudao’s gut reaction was that it was impossible.
But Changbei had come prepared this time. He detailed several ways Mo Si’s behavior had deviated from the norm and presented a wave of analysis that sounded surprisingly plausible.
He spoke eloquently and with conviction, making one point after another. It was the complete opposite of his usual clueless self whenever the topic of romance came up.
Qiudao found it all very strange. "Since when did you become such an expert on relationships?"
It was so sudden that Qiudao had to pause. "Wait... do you have a crush on someone in the army?"
"No, no."
"What are you talking about!" Changbei said, startled. "We made a pact to be in the bachelor’s club together! How could I just break ranks and start dating someone!"
"Then?"
He quickly waved his hands. "It’s all because you kept calling me dense! So I watched a few shows. You know how advanced our entertainment programs are—"
So, Changbei had watched a few dating shows to brush up on his skills.
"And I have to say, the techniques I learned from those shows have really opened my eyes to a lot of things."
Like the Admiral’s awkwardness.
Or the romantic sparks between so-and-so and what’s-her-name in the army.
And that one couple right in our office—you know who—making eyes at each other every day.
"And over at the testing department! I went there once and could tell that Xiao Hong and that section chief..."
He rattled off five or six ’secret couples’ the two of them regularly encountered.
Qiudao was shocked to hear all this. But after the shock wore off, he looked at Changbei’s smug face and was left a little speechless.
"It seems you have a real talent for this."
"Yup." Changbei puffed out his chest. "I think I’m exceptionally gifted."
His goofy expression made Qiudao burst out laughing.
’I really can’t picture the big lug sprawled out on his bed watching dating shows.’
