CHAPTER 360 - System Space.
CHAPTER 360 - System Space.
The plunderer ability that Alex had was an ability broken to its core—that is what anyone would say if they knew about it.
And it actually was just that, as it gave Alex one thing of his choosing from his enemy if he is able to defeat them and everything that the enemy has if he kills them.
So, right now, when he stared at Lokiath, who was anxiously trying to break free from here, Alex knew that it wouldn't be long before the guy had found a way to vanish from his sight.
Alex wanted to stop that, and to do that, he had to either kill him or take away his golden finger.
The golden finger is the only thing that Lokiath can depend on, as it is a system, so Alex decides to play a game with the guy.
Why a game?
Because Alex needed to defeat the guy for his plunderer ability to work, which he had yet to do.
Even the moment he knocked Lokiath out on his bed, it wasn't a defeat, as it was never a match; it was just an attack.
But things changed the moment Lokiath lost.
'Take the lust binding system.'
He ordered inwardly, wanting to see just what kind of thing this system was, but right after he received the lust-binding system inside of him, he heard Sophia's voice.
[You will have to come inside the system space for this one, Alex.]
Those words froze Alex for a second.
Alex had access to the system space for a while now, since he reached epic rank, but he had never gone inside the system space, as he could tell that Sophia, for some reason, didn't feel comfortable with it.
It was as if she didn't want to meet him yet, and if he were to enter the system space, he would surely look at her, the system spirit.
He still didn't know anything about her past, and whenever he asked her about it, she would just awkwardly try to change the topic; now, however, she was inviting him in.
'Are you sure?'
Although he knew that she had asked him to come in after thinking about it for long, he still asked.
He could sense her nervousness from the outside, and he was sure that she had a reason to be anxious, but what could it be?
Why has she always tried to avoid him even though she already knew that it wouldn't be long before he had to come face to face eventually?
[Yes, this case requires your direct involvement, as it is your mana that is needed to defeat the system.]
'I see...'
Alex, who heard Sophia's words, nodded his head slowly, oblivious to the fact that Sophia was clenching her fists in trepidation.
She wasn't sure if this was the right decision, but she couldn't stall for longer now.
Alex needed to be in the system space if he had to deal with this system; yes, she would be the one who would fight, but the mana supply would be Alex's.
The next second, Alex's eyes grew cloudy as he found himself jumping into a wormhole filled with multiple lights.
It was as if he was plunged into a loop of continuous action, and the next second he found himself standing in a room devoid of any light.
"Sophia."
'Will he hate me?'
'W-Would I have to be separated from him yet again?'
'A-Am I, am I n-never supposed to be close to him?'
'I-Is this what I get for the mistake I made in love?'
'I-I, I can't take it anymore—!'
Her thoughts, however, were cut short as Alex fell to the ground.
*Thud*
His eyes blank as he lay on the ground, which seemed soft, unlike the hard and rough surface it should have.
"A-ALEX!!"
Sophia finally broke out of her thoughts, and as she saw this, she hurriedly sat next to Alex, trying to help him up.
"A-Are you all right?"
She questioned, her heart beating against her ribs as if trying to break free and rush away from her.
The more Alex stayed quiet, the more her anxiety grew.
She helped him move toward the throne that she used to sit on before she waved her hand, making a glass of yellow-colored drink appear in her palm.
"H-Here, please drink this; it might help you with the pain..."
She stuttered as he pushed the glass of drink toward Alex's lips, and Alex, with his eyes still blankly staring at nothing, took a sip of it.
It was as if he was thinking hard about something, trying to understand what had happened, and that was exactly what he was trying to do.
He saw a series of images, and although he couldn't get the memories related to those images, he did get whom those images were related to.
It was Sophia.
Every single one of those images had Sophia in them.
In some images, he found himself, just a more mature version of himself, walking side by side with Sophia, laughing out loud as if enjoying their time.
In some images, he saw Sophia scolding a guy who looked to be around 18 years old, but the image didn't give him a bad feeling, it made him chuckle as he knew that she wasn't exactly scolding the boy but trying to make him understand something.
But the last image was what bothered him the most.
In that last image, all he saw was Sophia down on her knees, blood stained her hands as she sobbed uncontrollably.
Her expression was broken beyond repair, and she had a look of resignation, as if she had given up on everything—something he didn't expect from the Sophia he knew.
This was what had been bothering him for a while.
He could guess some things, and he made up some conjunctures, but he wasn't sure about them...
Sophia, however, was on the verge of breaking down from all the tension she felt before she saw Alex's blank eyes finally gaining color, turning to look at her, but his expression remained cryptic as his lips moved...
