Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Nie Yinzhi moved the table back to its original place, placing it between them, and said, "Now, I won't touch you, and you’re not allowed to touch me either." She glanced at the lush greenery around them. "Although this might not be very effective, it’s better than doing nothing and having to endure the pain of seeing you. Unless absolutely necessary, we shouldn’t meet or have any physical contact. Over time, the feelings will fade..."
Gu Jiang interrupted her, "Are you going to avoid me again, like you did before?"
Nie Yinzhi bit her lip. "Yes."
Gu Jiang pressed his fingers to his forehead, amused by her attempt to separate them with a small wooden table. "Do you realize how weak this threat is? If I don’t agree, you could hide to the ends of the earth, and you still wouldn’t be able to escape me."
The blood in his veins was almost boiling. He no longer had the patience to control his body temperature. The tender leaves on the ground nearby curled up from the heat, and faint wisps of demonic energy began to seep from his sleeves.
He knew why Nie Yinzhi was doing this. He had seen her exhausted to the point of collapsing, someone who was usually so meticulous, sleeping on the ground.
Gu Jiang couldn’t bring himself to speak harshly to her.
Nie Yinzhi’s eyes were red from holding back tears, and she said softly, "It’s not a threat. I’m just giving you a choice. I know you won’t force me."
She pushed the silk scroll in front of Gu Jiang.
[Wahhh, this is turning into a tragedy!]
[Damn it, it was so sweet earlier! I searched Weibo and found tons of sugar, but now they’re just killing us!]
[Girls, quick, answer this: Would you choose no love but with kisses and hugs, or love but no physical contact?]
[I don’t care, I choose to make love.]
[I agree! Nie Yinzhi is taking the wrong path. There’s nothing that can’t be solved by making love once. If it doesn’t work, then do it again.]
[Gu Jiang is just an honest demon. Why make him choose something so cruel? Nie Yinzhi, you have no heart. I feel sorry for him.]
[Gu Jiang won’t be hurt if he doesn’t love, but Nie Yinzhi has to face someone who doesn’t love her all the time. She’s the one being hurt here.]
[It’s precisely because Nie Yinzhi has a heart that she’s letting him choose. Otherwise, she could just do what makes her happy and not care if the demon burns to death. Maybe it’s even more exciting when he’s burning hot.]
[???? Why are the comments always steering towards the gutter? It’s really awkward when I’m halfway through crying.]
[Sweetie, you don’t need to shed tears for Nie Yinzhi. I think she’ll never let herself live miserably. Look at the unequal treaty she wrote.]
Gu Jiang’s dark eyes stared at her for a moment before he picked up the brush on the table and signed his name on the contract.
Nie Yinzhi’s eyes curved into a smile, and a tear rolled down her cheek. She seemed genuinely happy. "From now on, whenever I kiss you, it’ll feel really good for you."
Gu Jiang paused, then tossed the silk scroll aside. The wooden table instantly turned to dust in his hands, and he pulled Nie Yinzhi into his arms, his scorching palm cradling the back of her head as he pressed her tightly against his chest.
Nie Yinzhi’s earlobe was gently caressed by his burning fingertips as Gu Jiang lowered his gaze.
"Weren’t you trying to burn me to ashes before?" he murmured against her lips. "I think being burned by you would be quite nice."
"I..." As soon as she opened her mouth, he invaded her, leaving her unable to finish her sentence.
Gu Jiang’s body was too hot, and the faint, elusive fragrance he usually carried became even more intense, making her head spin. He clumsily tried to please her, unlike before when he only knew how to suck and devour.
Gu Jiang frowned slightly, feeling something flow through the curse mark on his wrist and into his heart, where it formed a fist-sized seal. In that moment, all his emotions seemed to be drained by the seal, as if he had been plunged into icy water. Everything around him lost its color, and a numbing coldness emanated from his chest. Even the person in front of him couldn’t stir any feelings in him.
Then, Nie Yinzhi released his joy, anger, sorrow, fear, disgust, and desire one by one, but locked away his capacity for love.
It only took the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. Nie Yinzhi carefully observed his expression. "See, it’s actually quite simple, isn’t it?"
"Were you going through this process over and over again before?" Gu Jiang leaned back against the tree trunk, his expression unreadable. He reached out and hooked a strand of her hair, pulling her into his embrace.
Nie Yinzhi was startled by his natural gesture and checked the golden sprout on her wrist in confusion. "The spell didn’t fail. Why are you still so comfortable with this?"
"It’s not like I’ve lost my memory," Gu Jiang said, lowering his head. As his emotions receded, the burning pain gradually faded, and the heat in his body slowly dissipated. The pain he had grown accustomed to now felt strangely unfamiliar.
He leaned against the tree trunk and closed his eyes.
Nie Yinzhi checked the curse mark again, confirming there were no issues, then quietly leaned against him. But she couldn’t sleep and unconsciously tilted her head up to look at Gu Jiang.
Gu Jiang let go of her, not opening his eyes as he said, "You don’t have to stay with me."
“That won’t do. The most important thing for me right now is to stay by your side.” Nie Yinzhi turned her head, grabbed his hand, and wrapped it around her waist again, pressing firmly to signal him to hold her properly before leaning back onto his shoulder.
Nie Yinzhi played with the ends of his hair, suddenly struck by an idea. “Brother, how about we preview your daily tasks in advance? What do you think?” She said, about to pull out the signed contract.
“No need.” Gu Jiang had already memorized the contents of the silk scroll. He tilted his head slightly, opening his eyes a crack, and cooperated with her good-naturedly, lifting her chin.
Nie Yinzhi wrapped her arms around his neck as Gu Jiang kissed her gently, just like before, carefully pleasing her. With the experience from their previous encounter, he was even more skilled this time. Nie Yinzhi felt as if nothing had changed at all.
She activated their shared emotions, and this time, there was no wave of burning desire surging from the small leaf. The heavenly wrath that Gu Jiang had been enduring also temporarily dissipated. For this moment, he was truly at ease. That was all.
Nie Yinzhi gasped for breath as he released her. Gu Jiang wiped her lips with his thumb. “It’s already dark. Do you still want to change the flower ornament?”
“Let’s leave that for tomorrow,” Nie Yinzhi said eagerly, waiting for him to praise her.
Gu Jiang’s gaze swept over her. “Your hair is smooth and glossy, even softer than fox fur.”
Nie Yinzhi: “...” Through their unbroken emotional connection, she could already sense Gu Jiang’s thoughts. He planned to compliment her from head to toe. Tomorrow, he’d probably praise her eyes.
[Marking the first time the old demon completes his task.]
[Seriously? Comparing our A’Yin to an animal?]
[Is the curse working or not? Why does it feel like nothing’s changed? If anything, they’re even more lovey-dovey now.]
[Are you two just messing with us?! I’ve already stocked up on a whole box of tissues, and this is what I get? This?]
[The old demon’s right. It’s not like he lost his memory. He remembers how they used to be together. How could he suddenly turn cold?]
[Focus on the details! The details!]
[I’m not focusing! If I swallow this sugar-coated pill fast enough, I won’t taste the bitterness inside!]
[I just want to ask, is Gu Jiang really a demon? He’s so obedient and gentle. My boyfriend acts more like a demon than he does.]
