Chapter 155: Chapter 148 Beast Tide
The blood-colored giant wolf had just struggled and fallen, but all of a sudden another blood-colored bull monster appeared, its size no less than that of the blood-colored giant wolf.
Its pitch-black eyes were fixated on the steel wall, muscles tense like rocks, obviously ready to charge.
“Draw arrows!”
Lu Bijng made a snap decision, but at this moment, two team members who were using crossbow arrows to block shouted urgently, “Captain, the monsters are stacking up!”
One by one, the monsters piled on top of each other, a seven-meter wall was not too high for them. As long as one crossed over the wall, it wouldn’t be easy for them to defend.
Lu Bijng’s expression changed, but then the sound of hurried footsteps finally came. He looked back with joy and indeed, a search team of around twenty people had arrived.
“Continue to defend!”
Guo Gang led his people over, his Angel Envoy’s flesh corpse took big strides and quickly joined the main force on the wall corridor. Then they knocked down the monsters trying to cross the wall.
“Captain Guo!”
Lu Bijng sighed with relief, a strong player had finally arrived. Guo Gang was also one of the people who had followed Su Han, his strength was clear to all, quite good even among First Order Upper Grade, ready to be Second Order.
“Continue to defend, aim the city wall crossbows at that bull monster.”
Guo Gang took over command and immediately started deploying personnel. Lu Bijng and Old Cui heard the order and acted accordingly.
Soon, the giant city wall crossbows were aimed at the blood-colored bull monster. The winch turned, the crossbow arrow was nocked, and with a ‘whoosh,’ it was rapidly fired.
However, this time, the bull monster dodged with incredible speed. The long crossbow arrow made a ‘thwack’ as it pierced through several monsters and then most of the arrowhead sank into the ground.
“Damn it, it was prepared.”
Old Cui frowned and cursed under his breath. The blood-colored bull monster, having seen the blood-colored giant wolf killed, had become wary of the city wall crossbow.
If there wasn’t anything else to distract its attention, it probably wouldn’t be easy to hit.
“Continue.”
Guo Gang ordered calmly. Whether hitting or missing, as long as they attacked, the blood-colored bull monster would be restrained from launching an immediate siege, which was a good thing.
The two’s attacks chased the blood-colored bull monster, while the monsters besieging the metal wall were being wiped out one by one under the small team’s crossbow arrows.
The monsters that wanted to cross the wall had just climbed up but were immediately knocked down by Guo Gang and the other Contractors or their Apostles.
The number of monsters was decreasing. Guo Gang contemplated that no more monsters were emerging from the fog and quietly approached the city wall crossbows.
The blood-colored bull monster was dodging the city wall crossbows, too preoccupied to notice, and with a thought, Guo Gang’s Apostle leaped down the wall, pinning the creature to the ground.
“Bang bang”
Fists covered in scale armor hammered down, and the bull monster tried to fight back, but the blows on the flesh corpse produced only dull thuds, failing to cause serious damage.
“Strike.”
Under the city walls, there were less than a hundred monsters left, but their hide was thick, and the damage from crossbow arrows was not that high, so it was time for the Apostles to take the field.
A plethora of Apostles jumped down from the wall; the thick blood was the best cushion. They grappled with each other, while the Contractors supported with bows and arrows from atop the wall.
Especially that First Order Upper Grade blood-colored bull monster, which was directly aided by Guo Gang with a city wall crossbow arrow piercing through its body.
Following close behind was the Glutton, who leaped down as well. Though still at Second Order Low Grade, its strength had clearly increased, its muscles becoming tougher as it approached Second-order Intermediate.
Upon appearing, its right arm was instantly reinforced with Hardening and the inherent Power Burst, swinging its arm to knock down any monsters trying to climb up, and even biting off their heads in one move.
It was then that Zhu Xiong followed suit, leaping down with bone armor manifesting on his body and his axe-hammer in hand, landing firmly on the Bone Armor Giant Pig.
With the power granted by the Glutton’s Power Burst and the Bone Armor Giant Pig’s bone armor, Zhu Xiong was fully armed for battle.
“Roar”
The two leading monsters sensed danger and let out furious roars, commanding the other creatures to charge.
“Thinking you’re bringing me dinner?”
Zhu Xiong sneered coldly; the Giant Pig Rider charged forward, taking his Bone Armor Giant Pig straight towards the Double-headed Blood Wolf and a Crimson King Kong.
Monsters along the way attempted to drag Zhu Xiong down, but before they could get close, they were bitten by the Glutton’s serpent-like cleaving right arm, pinned to the ground and torn apart, bodies ripped to shreds.
Zhu Xiong too was relentless, wielding his axe-hammer with terrifying force, making short work of ordinary monsters.
With two nearly Second-Rank Medium Apostles empowering Zhu Xiong, his combat strength was immense. Along with two skills at his disposal, his comprehensive strength was comparable to a typical Second Order Low Grade.
“Kill those monsters!”
Zhao Yimin, controlling his own Apostle, leaped out of the wall, along with about thirty other Apostles, who followed suit and descended the wall in various manners.
The strongest among them was Zhao Yimin’s flesh corpse Apostle, at First Order Upper Grade, had vines growing out of its back, flipping nearby monsters off their feet.
Another two Apostles were of First Order Upper Grade as well, fighting side by side and forming a protective arc.
The three of them took the front, while the rest continued to drop down and began countercharging the large number of monsters.
Despite being outnumbered, their strength was superior, and with scale armor protection, they quickly slaughtered many.
This, coupled with the Contractors atop the walls continually using crossbow arrows for support, instantaneously accelerated the killing efficiency.
The monsters kept charging, their numbers compensating for their lack of strength, gradually forming an encircling trend again.
“Boom”
Over at Zhu Xiong’s location, the horrific battle had already erupted.
The Glutton was locked in close combat with the Crimson King Kong, delivering bone-crushing punches that exploded with a thunderous sound and sent flesh and blood flying.
The Bone Armor Giant Pig, on the other hand, was now fighting the Double-headed Blood Wolf, its massive body supporting the most primitive and direct charges, each bite tearing away large chunks of flesh.
Zhu Xiong’s two powerful Apostles held the upper hand, but to take them down quickly and then turn to support the others was not so easy.
Su Han’s gaze shifted slightly, summoning the Centipede-mouthed Blood Toad. With the ground responding to the call, a blood-red figure soared high, leaping over the wall and then crashing heavily into the midst of the outside monster horde.
“Roar”
Its sudden charge instantly drew the attention of more monsters, which surged toward it like a tide.
However, their dense onrush played right into the Centipede-mouthed Blood Toad’s characteristics.
It opened its gaping mouth, the centipede mouthparts slashing like long snakes, and then a heavy mist of poison gushed out, attacking the surrounding monsters.
In an instant, hissing noises filled the air, and masses of monsters, eroded by the poison mist, collapsed to the ground.
