Chapter 207: Chapter 196 Blood King Snake
“Summon the Apostle first.”
Zhao Wu saw Zhou Mu intending to go straight down and cursed, his Book of Blood Spirit already lighting up, as the tall Spider Monster appeared beside the car door.
The Spider Monster was entirely pitch-black, its human body covered in a black carapace, like black bones, clearly having undergone special mutation.
The second Apostle was a skeletal giant covered with bloodied skin, quickly approaching from the rear of the convoy. Both were Zhao Wu’s Apostles, and their strength was not mediocre, which reassured him somewhat.
“What has happened?”
As soon as Zhao Wu and Zhou Mu got out of the car, a tall man jumped down from the second vehicle and looked towards Zhao Wu.
“I don’t know the situation.”
Zhao Wu replied cautiously, “Be careful, Li Zhao.”
“Okay.”@@@@
Li Zhao nodded and also summoned his own Apostle to guard by his side, two tall humanoid monsters, both of Second Order Low Grade.
The two knew each other before the apocalypse, having a friendship where they’d risk their lives for each other and had helped one another pull together this camp during the apocalypse.
Everyone got out of the vehicles, enveloped by the fog. Although the light from the Lamp Tree Crystals dispersed some of the fog, the overall lighting environment was still poor.
Zhou Mu hurriedly got out of the vehicle and walked to the very front of the truck, then after a while, a voice came out, “Brother Zhao, there’s a big ditch here, the road can’t be crossed without filling it.”
As his words reached them, everyone exchanged glances, nonplussed. This was a city road; how could there be a large ditch? What was going on?
Zhao Wu strode forward, with Li Zhao beside him. At the front of the vehicle, indeed there was a ditch spanning across the road, approximately 4 meters wide, and varying depths from the outside to the inside, roughly between 30 and 40 centimeters. The bottom of the ditch was a crushed and cracked road surface.
“Let’s go, immediately!”
Li Zhao’s face suddenly changed, this damn thing wasn’t a ditch, this was a road surface that had been run over.
What kind of massive creature could have crushed the main road’s surface into this eerie shape?
“Shasha shasha”
No sooner had the voice fallen, than the rustling sounds began emanating from around the fog, heavy and dense, coming from both ends of the wide street.
A faint dark red color, barely visible at the edge of the fog, appeared, approximately three to four meters high, resembling a red wall.
Everyone was startled, but the red wall seemed to be closing in slowly, getting nearer and nearer to them.
Zhao Wu’s eyes widened, cold sweat streaming down his face, as he stared intently at this red shadow. When he managed to make out what it was, his face instantly turned white.
This was no red wall but a creature with thick scales, layered densely, clearly a monster’s body.
“Run!”
He turned to flee, with the two Apostles ready to lift him away, the mere terrifying size of it squashing any thoughts of resistance.
How could such a terrifying monster exist when they hadn’t even left the city?
“Hiss hiss”
Just as he turned to run, before he could break away, a hissing sound came from above.
Zhao Wu looked up to see a pair of orange-yellow, cold eyes, like huge lanterns, suddenly appearing above them.
“Split into three teams, you, Old Gan, Old Guo each lead a team, starting from the Third Hospital, the zoo, and South City No.2 Middle School to block each entrance.”
“Understood.”
The three teams were mixed and then neatly stepped into the subway station, swiftly moving toward their respective directions along the tunnels that had been opened up.
South City No.2 Middle School, Third Hospital, and the zoo, these three locations would become strongholds with supplies and temporary accommodations.
The clang of plate armor colliding rang out continuously, Zhu Xiong leading the way with large strides.
The sound of rushing footsteps and armor colliding echoed in the deep tunnel, almost overwhelming everything else.
Although there were crystals from the Ancient Tree mounted every few meters on the tunnel’s stone walls, the tunnel still felt uncomfortable.
The team moved quickly through the tunnel; their target was the streets near the zoo, not too close to this side.
Fortunately, all were Contractors, and with two to a ride, their speed of travel was naturally fast.
However, as they passed some forks, the roars from the blocked tunnels increased the unease in this subway tunnel.
Not every tunnel had been cleaned out; some routes were merely blocked.
“We’ll clean them out eventually.”
Zhang Dahai muttered, and Zhu Xiong said, “Let’s focus on getting there first, the zoo area is not easy to handle.”
About half an hour later, they finally arrived at the subway station near the zoo; a large number of crystals from the Lamp Tree were placed around the walls, lighting the subway station as brightly as before the apocalypse.
“We’ve arrived.”
The team halted, and Zhu Xiong said, “Rest for five minutes, then one team will come out with me, and the second team will stay guarding the subway station, Zhao Yimin will divide the teams.”
“Understood.”
Five minutes was not long, neither Zhu Xiong nor Zhang Dahai rested, but instead walked towards the direction of the stairs.
The escalator had stopped working, covered with bloodstains, and Zhang Dahai said as he walked up the stone stairs beside it, “When we were fixing this place, not all the monsters were cleared out; it was bloody everywhere from killing them, the bodies were only moved later.”
“Subways are usually crowded, but it probably wasn’t the original crowd.”
Zhu Xiong appeared thoughtful, as the Chang Resentment Tiger King and Chang Beasts had almost taken over the entire area around the zoo, including the original subway station, but now, it had been almost one or two months since the Chang Resentment Tiger King was killed, and it was now occupied by other monsters.
“Old Zhang, what’s the situation with monsters here?”
“There are quite a few monsters, although it’s been cleared once, but now is the Psychic Tide, attracting more monsters here. If we hadn’t sealed the doors in time that day, we would have had a tough fight.”
Zhang Dahai spoke, “The situation here is complex, if we want to plant the zoo, we’ll have to include it, but that will require more walls than just sealing the entrances, considering the six or seven main roads around here and some side and inter-building paths, almost thirty to fifty entrances, it’ll take a few days at least.”
Zhu Xiong pondered, “Su Han mentioned there are Black Rock Tree Monsters breeding at the Ancient Tree; once the new batch arrives, things will speed up a lot.”
“That’s true.”
As they spoke, the roar of monsters and the intense sound of collision began to resonate, making the metal gate rattle.
Zhu Xiong and Zhang Dahai looked up to see the subway entrance encased in a thick metal door, and outside was a large group of monsters that had spotted them, their skin blood-red, bone spurs twisted, and ghastly faces staring intently at the two.
“Report, the team has been organized.”
Zhao Yimin hurried over, followed by over two hundred members of the first team and the construction crew.
“Summon the Apostle, then open the gate!”
