Chapter 463: Chapter 274 Difficulty Doubled_2
They deployed their forces in advance and made preparations for the Blood Moon, standing at the gates of the City of Judgment as the countdown commenced, expectantly watching the horizon.
The sun had set, and the moon had yet to rise, but the edge of the sky was already ablaze with a sickly red glow.
In the temple of the City of Judgment, where the NPC congregated, the sound of prayers drifted up to the heavens, becoming the power of the God of Judgment.
Under the Blood Moon, the monsters’ strength would further increase, but the quality of the items they dropped would significantly improve, some of which could include equipment usually only found in high-level dungeons.
Some of these items might even have additional unique modifiers due to the Blood Moon, undoubtedly making their dungeon runs more interesting and exhilarating.
Finally, the moon rose.
...
The Blood Moon was much larger than usual; a millstone-like moon crawled up from the horizon, and atop it, a vast mouth split open, revealing a grotesque smile that stretched to the gums.
The red light, like spilled blood, bathed the entire world, and the dungeons underground swelled under its illumination. Waves of monsters surged out of the dungeons, rushing toward the City of Judgment.
Although they had been informed by the Priest that the Blood Moon would be somewhat terrifying, upon seeing it for themselves, they realized the Priest might not have exaggerated at all.
Under the Blood Moon, all the monsters were a dark crimson color. The mountains swarmed with monsters, flooding through the landscape. Some were even squeezed into the air before hurtling toward the City of Judgment.
Seeing these creatures, Liuzi couldn’t help but exclaim, “Holy shit! How can there be so many!”
Although he was prepared for an assault by tens of millions of monsters, the number before him was likely in the billions, an endless army that drove home the insignificance of a single player.
“Has the Blood Moon always been this intense here?” Liuzi asked, unable to help himself.
“This time it’s actually not too bad,” the Priest next to him said calmly, “But don’t worry, we’ve applied to the God of Judgment for a miracle, and He will help us soon.”
A miracle is a power even more formidable than a blessing; the Gods turn the prayers of the faithful into strength and bestow it upon their Angel Envoys.
Suddenly, a beam of light shot up from the temple, and the dazzling white light connected to the God of Judgment watching from above. The God adeptly received the prayers, sending the accumulated Divine Power back to the Angel Envoy on the ground.
Instantly, every player was buffed with a divine blessing from the Gods, and those who used game pods found their strength doubled, with attributes improved across the board, provoking them to charge into the fray, howling as they clashed with the monsters.
In such massive warfare, everyday combat experience was of no use.
However, just as players were about to tally up their gains, something unexpected happened.
The pristine new moon suddenly turned in the sky, and the ink-dyed heavens were instantaneously replaced with red. The red moon reappeared, its surface bearing an even more ferocious grin, and one could even see thick drool dripping drop by drop from the corners of the moon’s mouth.
In the next second, monsters that had gone quiet earlier now emerged from the dungeons once more.
The monsters from before were merely frenzied, but this time they had become somewhat bizarre.
They merged in twos and threes into one entity; their strange fusion made these monsters even more terrifying and freakish, and their combination did not weaken them but, rather, enhanced their attributes in a dangerous overlay.
A tree laden with hands raced across the ground, a centipede with numerous wings danced in the air, and new monsters charged toward the City of Judgment, launching a fresh assault.
In comparison to the freshly unified monsters, the number of players had diminished to one-fourth. The remaining players could hardly put up a fight, and at first contact, the entire frontline began to collapse.
Seeing this, the priests in the temple turned pale, unable to help saying, “How is it possible for the blood moon to appear twice, what is going on? How could this happen?”
“Has this happened before?” Liuzi asked curiously.
“Yes, the outcome last time was too horrific to describe. No one survived, and the entire City of Judgment fell—all that was left were ruins.”
The priest, looking ghastly, took a deep breath and said to Liuzi, “We can’t escape. I’m going to pray.”
Watching the priest leave, Liuzi muttered to himself, “Double the difficulty, huh? I knew it wouldn’t be that easy.”
This wave’s difficulty was, indeed, somewhat perverse compared to the last.
The amplified attributes of the fused monsters, in the face of such dreadful opponents, left the players at their current level utterly helpless; the City of Judgment was on the verge of being laid to waste under this onslaught.
The commotion outside naturally grabbed the attention of the NPCs inside the temple.
The second coming of the blood moon was already a terrible omen, and those monstrous creatures outside exacerbated the oppressive atmosphere inside the temple to the extreme.
Thousands of NPCs had already prepared to sacrifice themselves, but soon, they saw an Angel Envoy appear at the temple entrance. One envoy raised a hand high, asking loudly, “Who among you is willing to be our equipment? Being equipped would allow you to quickly leave this place.”
After a moment of silence, an NPC, skeptical but hopeful, raised a hand, “I’m willing.”
Less than fifteen minutes later, the temple fell, all the Angel Envoys were torn to shreds, and the entire City of Judgment lay in ruins under the blood moon.
But confusingly, the number of citizens who fell victim this time was zero.
