154. the undying will: madara’s secret hideout (1)

inside the mountains' graveyard, the landscape was a stark testament to the hidden and ancient powers manipulated by one of history's most formidable shinobi.

located in a mountainous region between takigakure and otogakure, this area was dense with forests and dotted with the massive bones of giant creatures, creating a scene straight out of a dark legend.

the remnants of an abandoned mine, once a bustling site of human activity, now serve as a gateway to a deeper, more secretive past—madara uchiha's hidden base for his ominous eye of the moon plan.

after his apparent demise in a legendary battle against hashirama senju at the valley of the end, madara had retreated to this secluded location.

here, hidden from the world's eyes, he continued his dark endeavors. during their epic fight, he salvaged a piece of hashirama's flesh, full of his extraordinary vitality and physical energy, using it as a key to cheat death itself.

deep within this hidden base, a monstrous flowering tree stood at the center of a vast cavern, a grotesque marvel of shinobi bioengineering.

this tree, energized by the demonic statue of the outer path, bore the clone of hashirama senju. this clone, not truly alive but an eerie mimicry, sprouted from the tree's side, surrounded by eight lifeless hands.

the tree itself was armed with sharp, spike-like branches and rooted deeply into a massive, water-filled cavern below.

madara, now an old and withering figure, was physically tethered to this unnatural tree. three thick tendrils extended from the tree's trunk, plunging into his body to sustain him with a continuous flow of the statue's chakra, prolonging his life far beyond its natural span.

in one of the shadowed recesses of this room, madara spoke with the main white zetsu, which had recently had black zetsu merged into its right side—a manifestation, madara believed, of his own indomitable will, creating for helping him continue his plan even after his fast-approaching imminent true biological demise, for at least some period that was.

"the plans are progressing...", madara stated, his voice frail yet filled with an undercurrent of power, "the ninja world remains unaware of our preparations. how is the situation above currently, black zetsu, white zetsu?"

with eleven-year-old obito uchiha soundly asleep after an exhausting day of training, he took the opportunity to have this conversation.

also, he was recently really busy catching the boy as his chess piece, so he neglected the broader matters quite a bit.

this question, while seemingly straightforward, was a test, particularly for black zetsu, whom he considered an advanced manifestation of his own will, intricately manifested just a few days ago through a special jutsu of his creation.

white zetsu, eager to contribute, added, "yes, it's a weird, passive deadlock. no one is making big moves right now."

madara leaned back, his mind racing with possibilities, "this passive stalemate serves us well. it gives us more time to strengthen our position and manipulate from the shadows. the world's confusion is our biggest ally. the great nations' hesitation will be their downfall."

his eyes narrowed as he considered the situation and heavily reminisced, "those five great villages are still so entangled in their wary standoffs and wars, just like always, without any real change ever... hashirama's world is truly falling apart more and more as time passes...",

black zetsu nodded, its expression unreadable but its agreement evident: "indeed, the hesitation among the villages provides us with more time to strengthen our position and prepare for the eventual chaos that will follow. we will try to add fuel to the flames, too."

madara leaned back, his thoughts turning towards the future, "they fail to see the true threat until it is too late. we will be ready to strike when they are at their weakest. for now, we observe, and we wait."

madara processed these developments internally; his thoughts are deep and reflective. this third shinobi world war was truly unlike any other he had witnessed, including those smaller wars during the tumultuous warring states period.

yes, the scale was much bigger than any, but it was the extraordinary proliferation of powerful shinobi and the emergence of many unique, special powers, all in the same era, that distinguished this war from those of the past.

madara was taken aback numerous times throughout the conflict. the strategic complexity and the level of power displayed almost made him reconsider his plans on several occasions.

there was a part of him, perhaps, that felt a twinge of regret for not being born in this new era to directly challenge these formidable opponents in his prime rather than observing from the shadows as a mere husk of his former self.

however, he consoled himself with the knowledge of what was to come. his resurrection in the future was a certainty—a time when he would return as the most powerful being, capable of completing his grand designs.

the thought of that power, of exerting such influence over the world, of his dreams being completed, reinvigorated his resolve.

"i may not be part of this war as i once would have been...", madara whispered to the darkness of the cavern, "but my time will come again. and when it does, all the pieces will fall into place.",

his eyes, glowing faintly in the low light, were fixed on the far wall, seeing beyond it, beyond the present, into a future where his will would be law.

the currents of war and peace, of alliances and betrayals, were but ripples leading to the inevitable resurgence of his rule. in this, madara found the assurance and the patience needed to wait for his moment of ultimate triumph.
