Chapter 667 Appropriate High Reward Outcome For A High Risk Plan
Dark clouds gathered ominously above the charred mountain as fiery meteorite fragments relentlessly showered down.
The onslaught briefly intensified, as if heralding the final stand of the dying Phoenix before it departed the lands it had roamed for millennia.
As the firestorm ended along with one last screech of death from the mythical monster, the gray smoke clouds beneath the somber skies slowly cleared, revealing the kneeling silhouette of the young hero.
Was he alive? Or was he burned to death by the primordial flames while kneeling?
Naturally, everyone was both eager and anxious to know.
As the first adventurer to slay a mythical monster, Shye had carved out yet another legend, but had he died in the process, all his efforts would have been in vain.
The people who should have been celebrating his triumph would instead be mourning his death, forever tying his legendary feat to his untimely demise.
On the other hand, his critics would often claim he had an inflated sense of self-worth, blaming his arrogance for his demise—a topic that would inevitably spark heated debates across the Valenzia Region.
None of such things would happen, though, at least not because of the Phoenix, as when the smoke finally cleared, Shye's condition was finally revealed to the world. Read latest chapters at My Virtual Library Empire
He was fine.
In fact, it seemed as though the earlier explosion had nothing to do with him, considering that the burns he suffered didn't seem to have increased in number.@@@@
Standing up from his kneeling position, he looked in the direction of his comrades.
"Hahaha! I appreciate the concern, Frozen End, but rest assured, I, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, won't be falling anytime soon!" Shye declared with a calm, stoic laugh, snapping everyone back to reality.
'Heh, this Impious Origin Belt's [Barrier of the Condemned] is truly handy...' He thought as he struggled to stop himself from smiling ear to ear.
While shielded by his life-saving item skill and hidden by the gray smoke, he pondered carefully over his words, convinced that the cooler he appeared to the onlookers, the more points he would earn for himself.
Thus, upon seeing the notification that popped up in front of him, Shye's heart raced in sheer excitement and delight.
[Congratulations! You've earned 1,540,000 points!]
To make things even better, the smoky cover allowed him to discreetly retrieve the small, fiery seed—no bigger than a pea—while also enabling him to deny ever gaining anything from the Phoenix after slaying it.
She was determined to make it up to Shye in some way.
For example, paying for his medical bills.
Unfortunately, despite being quite pleased with earning over two million points, acquiring the flaming seed of rebirth, and receiving a plus twenty in all attributes, Shye still had one task ahead of him and did not intend to return to the city with his comrades.
"You all go back first. I noticed a strange phenomenon after defeating the Phoenix that I wanted to investigate. I'll be back shortly," Shye said, offering a flimsy excuse that didn't do much to convince his comrades to leave first.
"I see, then let me investigate with you." Midnight Fang replied, making Shye inwardly grimace.
He should've thought of a better excuse.
Fortunately for him, Frozen End, being a highly intelligent mage, sensed that Shye was planning to pursue something on his own.
While she wasn't sure what it was, Frozen End decided this would be her way to repay Shye for taking on the mission.
The four of them weren't weak, but their abilities unfortunately weren't a great match against the Phoenix, leaving them nearly ineffective in the hunt for the mythical creature.
"Midnight Fang," the young chantless mage began, "I think we should let Crowley handle this. My condition is worse than I realized, and I'll need someone to help me to the hospital."
Piercing Zephyr was already carrying the unconscious Radiant Sentinel, he couldn't possibly support Frozen End on his own as well, thus forcing Midnight Fang to reconsider his decision.
"Crowley, will you be fine alone?" The veteran titled scout asked.
"Yeah, I'll just dig around a bit and immediately return. I'll just be at most a few days late." Shye replied, inwardly thanking the unexpected assistance from Frozen End.
"I see. Here, take this. Crush this if you ever need help, I'll come rushing as fast as I can."
After handing Shye a talisman, Midnight Fang and the others used special return scrolls to teleport away, with Piercing Zephyr activating the unconscious Radiant Sentinel's return scroll for him.
Now that he was alone, Shye finally managed to breathe a sigh of relief.
An excited smile then graced the corners of his mouth the next moment.
'Wind Dragon, you're next!'
