Chapter 681 Devious Schemes
Chapter 681 Devious Schemes
"Pfft! Hahahaha!" Kenji erupted in laughter again at Ian's absurd proposal.@@@@
He doubted that the leader of the Valenzian youths, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, could gather such an amount on his own, let alone the foolish scout.
Ian was obviously bluffing!
Kenji loved it, though, as this was his prime chance to humiliate the Valenzians.
Who knows? If he manages to make Shye Crowley's companions look like utter idiots, maybe their regional director, Barley Grant, will reward him.
Unfortunately, he didn't have that amount either, so he needed to ask his comrades for help to put Ian in a more difficult position.
"Fine then, give me a moment to gather that amount," Kenji replied confidently, almost sneering as he spoke.
On the other hand, Ian appeared to "panic" for a brief moment before regaining his composure, prompting the elitist youngsters to nearly laugh out loud, with a single thought echoing in their narrow minds: 'Backwater rats are backwater rats, after all!'
They were all eager to see how the Valenzian youngster would talk his way out of the grave he had dug for himself; or rather, they wanted to witness how his deceitful, cowardly words would be dismantled by the Kreborian.
They wanted to expose the fraud that was Ian Izanagi! Read the latest on My Virtual Library Empire
Watching with a hint of schadenfreude, their wicked smiles widened as they saw Kenji's comrades fully cooperating.
It was only a matter of time before the Valenzian scout's career met its end.
A few moments later, Kenji returned with a large coin sack, throwing it into the center of the sparring area along with five unique-tier skill books and three adamantite-tier accessories.
He was certain that Ian wouldn't follow through with the bet anyway; it was all just a tactic to force the Valenzian to accept the sparring challenge.
However, just as they were waiting for Ian to stutter in panic, the slightly worried look on his face suddenly vanished.
Ian then walked closer to the sack and used a mana-powered device lent to him by Shye—a coin counter—to check if the sack actually contained five hundred thousand gold coins.
"O-Oh...so this is the feeling of betting...I-I'll join in and bet thirty-thousand..."
Upon witnessing the sudden ruckus next to him, Belford was left dumbfounded. He did not know what the hell was going on.
At first, it appeared that one of his youths, Ian Izanagi, was making excuses and was clearly afraid to accept the challenge.
Now, that very same individual sported a goonish smile as he retrieved thirty-five thousand gold coins from his spatial bag to contribute to the betting sack.
It was a peculiar and bewildering sight.
What made Barley, the Kreborian director, grit his teeth in anger was the sight of Shye and his friends jotting down their bets as if they feared being cheated when the reward sack was divided.
'These bastards...'
Unfortunately, like his youths, he could only wait for Kenji to humiliate the arrogant fools who were acting as if they had already secured victory.
A few moments later, Ian returned with exactly what he had named for the bet.
Naturally, it was Shye who covered the cost of the five unique-tier skill books, purchasing all five for a total of 620,000 system points.
It stung a little, but it was worth it if five could become ten after the battle.
He had already used appraisal on Kenji and confirmed that he was no match for Ian anyway.
"There you go. Five hundred thousand gold coins, five unique-tier skill books, and three adamantite-tier accessories." Ian said as he tossed the coins and items next to those Kenji had thrown, ensuring that the Kreborians wouldn't be able to back out of the bet after losing. "Moderator Scarlet, please hold onto the bet and have it delivered to the winning table. Thank you."
"C-Certainly, sir Ian. Leave this to me."
Nodding in appreciation at the moderator, Ian turned his attention to Kenji and made his way to the weapon rack, where he selected a suitable blunt dagger from the assortment of blunt weapons.
"Now then, Kenji Ashton of Krebori, choose your weapon. I, Ian Izanagi of Valenzia, accept your challenge!"
