Chapter 699 Eight Azure Orbs

Chapter 699 Eight Azure Orbs

"Miss Wendy, what's the meaning of this?" Oriel asked with a cold voice as he retreated.

There was no way in hell he could destroy all fifteen layers of barrier in the last three seconds he had left before his spell restriction skill timed out, so he decided that it would be better for him to retreat for now and assess the situation.

Meanwhile, Wendy's head slightly tilted to the right, a confused expression emerging on her face.

What did she mean by what?

Well, the beautiful priestess' reaction to the question was rather understandable, as Oriel had stupidly assumed on his own that Wendy was simply giving Fanfir a free win.

In reality, she planned to win.

This was why she was confused by her Fanfirian opponent's sudden words of appreciation.

Noticing her reaction, Oriel spelled everything out: "Weren't you gracing us with a free win? Why are you making things so difficult?"

Upon hearing the young Fanfirian's words, Wendy was enlightened.

It seemed that her class was looked down on in the Inter-regional Sparring Matches.

She was smart enough to know that she couldn't fault Oriel, though, as priests and priestesses were generally good at providing support and were usually not great classes for dueling.

"Ahh, I apologize, Sir Oriel, if you misunderstood my intentions. I will not be gifting you a free win. In fact, I might be handing a loss to your team, so allow me to apologize once more." Wendy sincerely said with a deep bow, appearing extremely apologetic.

She had genuinely good intentions.

Unfortunately, her sincerity and honesty merely sounded arrogant to everyone's ears.

Her confident words sounded hilarious to Shye and the others, though.

After all, knowing Wendy, they all knew that her words contained no ill intent and that she was only being honest and had nothing but genuinely good intentions in her apology.

This was why everything was so funny to the Valenzian youngsters.

To the Fanfirians, however, such words were anger-inducing.

The positive impressions they've developed towards Wendy suddenly vanished, replaced by pure resentment and disdain.@@@@

A priestess defeating a scout in a duel? Delusional!

Naturally, it was Oriel who was enraged the most, his hands shaking in sheer fury.

A mere priestess dared humiliate him!

"You're out of your damn mind, priestess!" the Fanfirian scout cursed angrily as he hopped on his feet, charging right back at Wendy.

He would never tolerate such disrespect.

If the priestess wanted a melee fight, then he'd gladly give her one—and teach her a lesson in the process.

The two combatants arrived within prime striking distance, with Wendy attacking first as her life staff was longer.

Unfortunately for her, Oriel easily dodged the downward staff strike by sidestepping to the right.

He then closed the distance once more by dashing in.

With her staff still extended, Wendy had no way to defend herself, or at least that was what should've happened.

Just then, the blue orbs suddenly extended, transforming into thick mana roots that shot toward the Fanfirian scout, aiming to immobilize him.

"Crap!" Oriel cursed inwardly.

He had been wary of the blue orbs, but their true purpose far exceeded his expectations.

He initially thought they were small barriers Wendy could use for defense, or perhaps mana blasts that could explode at close range.

That was the extent of his preparations.

Never did he imagine that the orbs were seeds all along—ones that would sprout into binding roots and vines.

Nevertheless, Oriel was a highly skilled scout, and he still managed to fend off the mana roots while backpedaling desperately.

He had no choice but to delay his plans, as he had to defend himself first.

Unfortunately, although he was able to deal with seven roots, the eighth one caught his left ankle.

Oriel didn't care much, though.

He thought he could slice through the roots using a [Common]-tier skill.

This, however, was where he miscalculated.

Just as he attempted to sever the root, it suddenly electrocuted him, paralyzing him for two crucial seconds.

In that brief moment, the remaining seven orbs encircled the Fanfirian scout, morphing into chains that anchored securely to a magic circle in the air.

The orbs bound Oriel tightly, even wrapping around his neck.

He was completely immobilized.
