Chapter 775: A Grandfather’s Loving Letter
Chapter 775: A Grandfather’s Loving Letter
The ambush squad members, along with their leader, were petrified on the spot.
None of them understood how Shye managed to escape.
They even reinforced the ground, using a device to harden it and prevent Shye from tunneling her way out.
The void and space were also sealed off.
This was why all of them were perplexed, unable to fathom how their target had suddenly disappeared, as such vanishings typically relied on [Void]- or [Space]-type skills.
It took a few moments for them to regain their composure one by one, with Dweezel feeling an overwhelming urge to curse at the skies.
He had prepared extensively for this day, but in the end, he was outsmarted by a young man in a way he couldn’t even comprehend.
However, mindful of his role as the leader of his organization, he forced himself to appear calm and in control, projecting the impression that he was unfazed—despite being deeply shaken by what had happened.
The one-time use devices going to waste deeply wounded his pockets.
Left with nothing else to do, Dweezel walked closer to the two dropped items, his attention captured by the live recording crystal.
Normally, anyone who was hiding their evil deeds would be crazy nervous after spotting the active crystal.
However, Dweezel had already taken precautions, instructing his agent at the Valenzia Broadcasting Center to adjust Shye’s channel settings, rendering it inaccessible for the day.
What he hadn’t anticipated was that there was no need for this, as Shye himself had set the channel to test mode, using it as part of his plan to survive the ambush.
Shye hesitated to use this opportunity to expose Dweezel’s darker side, knowing it could backfire on him.
After all, he, too, was hiding his affiliation with Hadean Varsa.
Besides, who knew how deeply Dweezel had already manipulated society?
If the old snake could brainwash a trained adventurer like Maia, influencing ordinary people would be far easier, since a single dose of his ghastly potions could completely rewire their simple minds and bodies.
Unbeknownst to the old snake, his cursed target was still watching him with an amused expression through the live recording crystal.
"Primo." he began, "Plan A failed, contact Seventeenth and begin plan B. I shall personally see that bastard begging for his sister back."
Upon hearing his Lord Father’s words, which seemed to carry a furious undertone, the calm and collected Primo broke into a cold sweat for the first time in a decade.
At first, despite being prepared ahead of time as a contingency plan, the First Hawkling didn’t believe Plan B would be necessary.
After all, his excellent Lord Father would be personally spearheading the operation.
Hence, he dismissed Leffen’s failure as a simple sign of incompetence, thinking it merely meant Leffen had lost his chance to inherit Dweezel’s position.
He was certain that failing wouldn’t have much of an impact in the grand scheme of things.
Such was the extent of Primo’s trust and admiration for his Lord Father.
This was why he trembled at Dweezel’s words, his hands shaking and his mouth paralyzed.
Plan B...had already failed, and Maia Crowley, who was meant to be their bargaining chip to capture Shye, had been taken by the target several days ago.
"Primo?" Dweezel followed up, snapping Primo back to reality.
"L-L-Lord Father..." the hawkling stuttered, "S-Seventeenth reported mission failure two days ago. Maia Crowley was taken by the target about three and a half days ago."
*CLACK!*
A loud thud sounded as Dweezel’s mana communicator fell to the rocky ground.
The old snake could not believe what he just heard.
The next moment, he spat out blood, falling on his back. If not for the timely reactions of his aides, his head and spine would’ve suffered grave injuries that would endanger his life.
Meanwhile, in a small, hidden cave, an ashen-haired young man burst into laughter.
"HAHAHAHAHA! Take that, you sinister old coot! Oh, damn, that felt amazing! That’s what you get for laying your filthy hands on my little sister! If only you’d depart for the nether shores after this, everything would be perfect! I hope you never wake up again!"
