Chapter 48 - 48 Cant Enter the House

Chapter 48: Chapter 48 Can’t Enter the House

Within a minute, Jiang Yan had already flown to the 32nd floor of Building A.

The jet-powered suits she had bought generally reached speeds of over 200 kilometers per hour, it’s just that she wasn’t too familiar with operating them, which made her flight slower.

She glanced around a few times, fortunately, no Blood Mosquitos had followed her.

She controlled the suit to hover outside the living room window and then carefully took out her phone from her bag.

Looking at the screen, she saw a big exclamation mark indicating the signal and unconsciously smirked.

Oh no!

All her calculations, yet she hadn’t anticipated that her cell phone would suddenly lose its signal!

With no cell phone signal, the smart home system was definitely unusable too—which meant her plan to enter through the window was ruined.

Luckily, her suit could still fly for a while longer.

Also, there were still three methods to get back inside her home now:

One method was descending from the roof.

She remembered that from the roof to the 32nd floor, there was just one iron door, easy for breaking open the lock.

The staircase below the iron door, however, was suspended some distance above the corridor floor.

For her, this wasn’t a problem at all.

The second method was entering through the corridor windows of the 32nd floor, but that too required smashing the glass.

There was a pile of hammers in Space, making breaking the glass easy.

But, she remembered the dimension of the corridor window was small, and she was wearing a lot of gear, looking akin to a Michelin tire.

To get in, she’d have to dismantle the window frame too.

Moreover, once the window was shattered, whether it be Blood Mosquitos or the upcoming storm, both would enter the corridor.

The third method was to enter normally through the first floor, which also involved breaking glass or locks.

This was the hardest and most tiring, and also the most likely to get noticed.

After all, it involved using an electric saw to violently break the lock.

Thinking it over, the first method seemed much simpler.

With that thought, Jiang Yan increased the power of her suit slightly using the controls and flew straight to the roof.

Despite wearing insulation shoes, when she landed on the roof the intense heat was palpable.

This was Jiang Yan’s first time at such a place.

Few items were on top: a room resembling a rooftop water tank, and two electricity boxes placed side by side.

Besides that, there were three small circular flowerbeds.

However, the flowers and grass in those beds were long dead.

Then, with a thought, she fetched from the Inventory Area some almost entirely fresh shrimp, crab sticks, and clams, cleaned them, and added them to the pot.

Finally, as the noodles cooked to a perfect chewy texture, she added thinly sliced shiitake mushrooms.

Topped with some cilantro, a delicious bowl of seafood instant noodles was ready in no time.

Jiang Yan finished it off, broth and all.

As a food blogger over the years, she had never really controlled her diet.

Mainly because she had a naturally slim physique, no matter how much she ate, she never gained weight.

If not for her health indicators appearing normal on medical reports, she would almost suspect she had hyperthyroidism.

Now, in the apocalypse, her slim appearance added a significant sense of security.

After the meal, she discovered her phone had signal again.

In excitement, Jiang Yan left Space with her phone in hand.

With no protection on her, returning to the corridor felt like being thrown into a dry sauna.

Hot.

Not ordinarily hot.

She took out her phone, opened the smart home system, quickly shut down the intrusion program, then entered the password and scanned her fingerprint.

With a “beep,” the door opened.

The apartment was stuffy, almost suffocating her.

But the feeling of home was always good.

It was an indescribable feeling of security, etched in her bones.

This feeling was incomparable to her perfect Space.

Glancing at the living room thermometer, the temperature had reached sixty-eight degrees.

Jiang Yan closed the door and didn’t turn on the lights.

After returning to the bedroom, she entered Space once again.

Upon checking her phone, the Shallow Bay owners’ chat was lively as ever.

Despite the afternoon’s gruesome blood and wind, people seemed to have survived the ordeal.

Complaints were still being aired.

Cursing towards Jiang Yan and others was ongoing.

But mostly, everyone had returned to entertaining themselves.

Some were sharing photos and videos of an underground shelter in the group.

As there was a backup power supply, there was light inside, but not very bright.

After all, it was uncertain how long the intense heat would last, so electricity had to be conserved.@@@@
